If you haven’t heard about the concept of "Six Degrees of Separation", the thesis is that almost everybody on earth is connected to everybody else by no more than six steps. I’ve never met Queen Elizabeth (yes, the one in England) and I’m quite sure she has no idea who I am. But it dawned on me the other day that I have a connection to her in only 3 steps. Here’s how it goes.
Step 1. I’ve met Armand Morin (that’s me on the right)
Step 2. Armand has been to dinner with Prince Charles (See p. 40 in "An Obvious Truth")
Step 3. Prince Charles knows the Queen (obviously) because he is her son.
Thanks to Armand Morin, I have a connection to the Queen, and it didn’t even take 6 steps. Now if you think about who the Queen knows, Step 4 for me opens up a whole world of people I never imagined I would have any connection to.
