Action takers are the money makers

I've just been listening to yet another internet marketing webinar and the speaker made that assertion. I've heard that cliche quite a few times, usually just before I'm asked to buy another internet marketing product. Sound familiar to you? 

Unless … 

If the only action you take is buying the product, you're not going to make money, you're going to lose money, specifically what you just spent.

Are you a compulsive buyer of internet marketing products that you never really use? If you are, you're losing money fast. I know I didn't need to tell you that.  

The Cure Is … 

Focus! Sure easy for me to say. Not so easy to do when you suffer from OLS (oh, look, shiny) syndrome, also known as adult attention deficit disorder (ADD). It's hard to work your way through that new course you just bought and even harder to implement the content when you are almost immediately distracted by the next Big Thing that is going to solve your financial problems.

Dan Hollings hates to pay for stuff that makes internet marketing easier. He has amassed a huge arsenal of free materials that he will share with you for the one-time price of $297. But you get a lot more than a list of free resources – you get Dan's guidance on how to use those resources effectively.

But don't take my word for it.

This is one of the few high cost programs I would recommend for inexperienced marketers (and experienced marketers will learn more than a few ways to reduce their costs while amping up their online business).

Kindle Direct Publishing (kdp) is a way for you to self-publish your writing and possibly make some money as well if people decide to buy your work to read on their Kindle. Recently there has been a lot of hype about how you can get rich with Kindle publishing – see the word hype. Jim Edwards has a warning [ Jim Edwards Kindle-Lie ] for you about how to do it right – and avoid doing it wrong.

I think I can write fairly well so I set up a kdp account for myself. If you are an aspiring author/writer and want to put your work out there, here is how to set up you kdp account. There's more to learn, but that's for another lesson.

This lesson shows you how to set up a Kindle Direct Publishing account with Amazon.

Step 1. Open the kdp web page in a browser. URL: kdp.amazon.com

Open the Kindle Direct Publishing Page in a Browser. Click the button that applies to you. Sign in to your Amazon account, or create an account if you don't have one.

Step 2. Sign in to your amazon.com account

In this case, I already have an Amazon account.

Step 3. Read the kdp terms of service

If the TOS is agreeable to you, click the Agree button. If not, click the Cancel button and go back to whatever you were doing before you decided to sign up for kdp.

I advise you to note in particular these sections of the TOS. These are listed here to attract your attention and you should review the TOS for complete information.

4.1 Eligibility. In order to participate in the Program you must: (a) have an active Program account; and (b) be at least 18 years old or the legal age of majority in your place of residence.

5 Digital Book Distribution Rights.
5.1.1 Delivery. You must provide to us, at your own expense each Digital Book you desire to distribute through the Program. We will not return to you any electronic files or physical content or media you deliver to us in connection with the Program. You must deliver all electronic files free and clear of viruses, worms and other potentially harmful or disrupting code.
5.1.3 Digital Book Rejection. We are entitled to determine what content we accept and distribute through the Program in our sole discretion.
5.3.1 List Price. You will provide a list price for each Digital Book you submit to us in accordance with the then current Program procedures for list price submission ("List Price").
5.4.1 Royalties. If you are not in breach of your obligations under this Agreement, for each Digital Book sold to a customer (i.e., an end user) through the Program, the Amazon party that made the sale will pay you the applicable Royalty set forth in the Pricing Page, net of refunds, bad debt, and any taxes charged to a customer or applied with respect to sales to a customer (including without limitation any VAT or sales taxes).
6 Ownership and Control of Amazon Properties/ Feedback. Subject to the authorizations you grant to us under this Agreement, as between us and you, you retain all ownership rights in and to the copyrights and all other rights and interest in and to your Digital Books.

You may not include in any Digital Book any advertisements or other content that is primarily intended to advertise or promote products or services.

Step 4. That's it! You're done opening your kdp account.

Read about KDP Select if you want. The next Step is to add your literary work so people can buy it and download it to their Kindle. Click the Add new title button to get started.

If you don't have a book to add at this time, just Sign out. Sign back in when you're ready to continue.

Step 5a. If you see this …

Click the Update Now button. Your account window will open. You will be asked for address, tax, and royalty information. Edit as necessary and Save.

Step 5b. Royalties

Choose how you want to be paid. Click the + button. The choices are check and EFT (electronic funds transfer).
Checks are sent about 60 days after sales – See TOS for details.

Step 5c. Payment by Check example

Note that all Amazon.com royalties are paid only in USD$.

Step 5d. Payment by EFT example

Click Add a bank account. This is the account to which your royalties will be sent without using paper. Who has paper money anyway, right? OK, let's not go there.

Step 5e. Add a bank account for EFT

Fill in the blanks with your bank account information. You can delete or change this account as necessary.

Click Done. Finally, check over the information you entered to ensure it is complete and correct. Then click the SAVE button to update your kdp account.

Step 6. Return to the KDP Dashboard

Click the Bookshelf link at the top of the page. You're now ready to add your book!

This video uses all the scammy tricks the young sexy lady complains about in the first 5-10 minutes of hype and goes on about for the next 15-20 minutes, (How long was that thing? Extra Credit: How many times did she cross and uncross her legs?). If you click off this website, you get to see more offers – just say NO!  

My Advice – Save the $46 for something actually reasonable. And if you are the type of person they are looking for who simply can't resist the hype (I can sympathize.), at least be prepared to ask for a refund.

According to psychologists, a lot of people hate their job because … their personalities are not suited to the work they have to do.

If you haven't noticed yet, all the training courses and other stuff you are bombarded with every day telling you how much money you are going to make with internet marketing never bothers to ask you if you like selling stuff. Because if you answer that question honestly, most of us wouldn't buy their stuff. The truth is most people don't like selling. Who You Are!

While I was browsing the business books at Barnes & Noble the other day I came across several books that discussed the issue of how personality type affects your job success. These books aim to help you not just to succeed but to enjoy your work because the work and your personality fit together. Now that's a novel idea! But not one you will hear from the internet marketing gurus who are trying to convince you that "Anybody can do this. Even my 12 year old daughter!". 

Are You Unsuccessful at Internet Marketing Because the Job Doesn't Suit Your Personality?

Do you like to sell stuff whether you know anything about it on not like Bill Glazer? Do you think of yourself as a great sales person like Mike Filsaime? Do you like to spend your time talking to people about yourself and your success like Brendon Burchard? Do you listen to Tony Robbins? And yes, it's a JOB.

What's Your Personality Type?

So before you spend another dime on a training program to learn internet marketing, take a moment to consider if it's a job you would enjoy doing. Does internet marketing or even the vaunted "Being your own Boss" really suit you? An honest appraisal will not only help you make an informed decision, but it will also help you decide on the kind of people you need to form your internet marketing team.

 

Here's a New Year's Tip for You

I can't tell you how many times I've looked at an opt-in or sales page for an internet marketing or home business product, and decided not to buy.

Then I get a popup or popover or pop-this telling me I can get it cheaper – apparently because I just said no. Sometimes saying no to that next offer brings an even cheaper one or a free report that might interest me.  [BTW free reports typically have one or more links back to the product I didn't buy on first look. ]

The Marketing Strategy

There's a marketing strategy that says potential customers should not leave empty-handed, and by just saying no to the first offer, you trigger that strategy with reduced cost for you and me if we then decide to give the product a try.

So Just Say No and see what happens. If the sales page just goes away with no downsell offer and you really wanted to try the product, don't worry. Internet marketing and home business offers always come back to life again.

Would You Believe $1,997 to $29.95?

One product I looked into actually went from the first offer of $1,997 all the way down to $29.95. "Worth $1,997, but you won’t pay that, not $997, not $197, today only $39.95", or maybe $29.95 if you didn’t take that bait and just said no. Hard to believe, isn't it.

But if you saw this kind of deal, you might think like I did that this must really be a piece of internet marketing space junk and then feel really sorry for anyone who actually paid $1,997 for it.

Here's an example of a downsell offer I saw today. It's the kind of offer you can expect to see if you just say no to the first offer.

So You Want to Start an Internet Business …

If you are trying to get into internet marketing to start an online business, think you want to be an entrepreneur, or have bought into the "internet lifestyle",

if you have a trunk full of training products you bought that promised you would make money in 3 hours, 30 days, or 6 weeks, maybe like me you need to STOP, back up and start at the beginning again.

The First KEY Question

Cory Miller (co-founder of iThemes) lays it on the line by asking the key question that we really must answer first. I'm going to have to re-think this myself. I hope you find it helpful too.

Does that list of reasons sound very familiar to those of us who have been wallowing in internet marketer hype for a couple of years now?

If you thought it was going to be easy because that's what they told us, maybe they lied to us in their own effort to accomplish those reasons. After you and I answer the first key question, then we can decide if internet marketing is really the right business for us – and go from there.
