Article Generator Mayhem

200 Unique Articles in 14 Seconds ???

Do you really think that you can generate 200 unique articles in 14 seconds from one single article? Well, you can’t. What you can do is futz around with synonyms and phrase inversions using a dictionary and a thesaurus to make it seem that each article is somehow distinctly different from all the rest. But all the articles are essentially the same, meaning that the actual cognitive content is identical.

Who Is the Author?

It isn’t you! I think it is unethical to let a computer program generate article content for you and then claim that you wrote the article with the implication that you are some sort of expert on the topic of the article. I know some internet marketers are not troubled by that, but I feel that it is dishonest. Especially if they are selling you the content and you think they wrote it. They probably didn’t write the original article either. Even if they are giving it away and your only connection with it is reading it, you still got scammed because you were misled about authorship (unless, of course, they tell you that the article was manipulated by a computer program).

WARNING !

I strongly recommend against using any word replacement software based on dictionary and thesaurus substitutions for generate faux uniqueness. Google has this tactic figured out already, and it isn’t worth your reputation to be caught in this particular trap.

Truth and Half-truth in Internet Marketing

Friday, June 20th, 2008

By feeding you half-truths, some internet marketers target beginners trying to get a start making money online, or maybe just trying to earn some supplemental income, or people who have been at it for a while but haven’t  made any real money, or people who are desparate and looking for a fast easy way to make money using the internet, and all those dreamers who are misled by the "internet lifestyle" lie.

Truth

There is no fast and easy way to make money on the internet if you are starting from scratch and have no business experience!

There, I said it. Again. You will find that most of the internet marketers you know about worked for years to develop their business, some of them even studied the internet for several years before they actually started a web-based business. So when they tell you how easy it is to stuff money into your bank account, they are telling you half of the truth. The other half is how long and how hard they worked to become successful. (more…)

On Bullshit Marketing

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

You sometimes wonder what the difference is between bullshit and marketing, especially internet marketing and beer  commercials. Harry G. Frankfurt, Professor of Philosophy at Princeton University, has a little book out entitled, "On Bullshit", and I think a few of his comments are very relevant to marketing in general and internet marketing in particular.

"Since bullshit need not be false, it differs from lies in its misrepresentational intent. The bullshitter may not deceive us, or even intend to do so, either about the facts or about what he takes the facts to be. What he does necessarily attempt to deceive us about is his enterprise. His only indispensibly distinctive characteristic is that in a certain way he misrepresents what he is up to.

This is the crux of the distinction between him and the liar. Both he and the liar represent themselves falsely as endeavoring to communicate the truth. The success of each depends upon deceiving us about that.

The fact about himself that the bullshitter hides is that the truth-values of his statements are of no central interest to him … He does not care whether the things he says describe reality correctly. He just picks them out, or makes them up, to suit his purpose."

You don’t really believe that those buxom hotties in the beer commercial are salivating over you because of the beer you drink, but your reptilian brain does. Bullshit marketing is aimed squarely at that part of your brain. That’s what makes you click that BUY NOW button when your rational brain is screaming NOT TRUE NO WAY WASTE OF MONEY at you.

Here’s the perfect example of bullshit marketing. How many sales pages have you seen that blast this claim at you, "I GUARANTEE THAT ANYBODY (EVEN A DOLT LIKE YOU) WILL MAKE MONEY USING MY SYSTEM." Then in that obscure part in the footer labelled, "Disclaimer", it says, "I don’t guarantee that anybody will ever make any money using my system and you will probably even lose money for any or all of the following reasons including that you spent money to buy my stuff."

So what good is that make-money guarantee in the sales letter? It’s not meant to be good or bad, just bullshit that suits the bullshit marketer’s purpose.

How to Waste Money on SEO

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

I really hate to admit that I wasted over $2,000 on SEO (search engine optimization). Take a lesson from me if you’re smart ,and DON’T DO WHAT I DID.

I had a start-up ecommerce website selling bird houses(that’s a story for another time). One day, I got a call from a person who said they represented Web Marketing Source.com (a division of Captures.com), and they just happened to notice that my website wasn’t working as well as it should. They proposed to greatly improve my results and of course they just happened to have a special deal for me that included all these items:

  • Meta analysis and recreation of clients tags and keywords
  • Automated search engine submissions for quick indexing
  • Manual search engine submissions for non-automated engines
  • Auto and manual site maps submissions for faster site map indexing
  • Submissions tracking reports "upon request"
  • Simple maintenance and updating of tags "upon request"
  • HTML site map which helps your pages to be indexed quickly

Well, honestly I wasn’t selling that many bird houses so I let myself get sweet talked into signing a contract for their "services".

I was too new at internet business to understand that all the "services" they were going to provide are pretty easy to do yourself for almost nothing. So I took the bait, and the contract set the hook.

Basically I got nothing, OK well I did get poor customer service. As near as I can tell, all they did for $2K was generate a Google site map. After they got my money, the sound of silence from them was deafening, and I was too stupid to know what to do. They offered no help whatsoever.

What I did notice is that their services provided absolutely no detectable improvement in my website. What did change was my bottom line - it got worse. Thanks to that contract I signed, I had to keep paying them for 3 more months after I tried to cancel the deal. So I lived up to my part of the bargain - I gave them a lot of money for a few minutes of work.

If you have a website, keep in mind that there are people trolling the internet looking for website owners to call on the phone to sell them SEO. It’s a good bet you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars for a Google site map!

Here’s my advice

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES buy anything from anybody who calls you out of the blue to tell you that they noticed your website wasn’t optimized and they’re going to help you get those rankings that you deserve. And for sure don’t sign a contract with someone you don’t know.

Internet Marketing is Easy - NOT!

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

I really hate it when I see sales letters, ads, emails, and other hyped-up come-ons telling people with no business experience how easy it’s going to be to get rich with internet marketing.

You even hear that from the "gurus", who have, of course, already put in the 5 or 10 years it took them to be the successful millionaires they claim to be.

And most of their income comes from people who don’t have any idea what they are getting into. Could that be you?

When guru Hyper says here’s how I do it, just do what I tell you and you’ll start making your financial dreams come true in 10 days or so, he (or she) really means, "I’ve been doing this for years so it’s easy for me." If you’ve been doing it for years, it might be easy for you too.

But if you are just getting started and are trying to do this in your spare time, take a deep breath, don’t quit your day job just yet, and think about what you really want to do.

And for God’s sake don’t buy any internet marketing programs that cost more than you can afford thinking that you will quickly pay off the debt with your newly acquired profits

If you think you are going to start from scratch with no experience and make $20,000 in 20 days, then I have a bridge for sale that will interest you.

Making money takes work. If you are not willing to or are not capable of doing the work, you should fold your tent right now. Harsh maybe, but that’s the truth. The get-rich-quick scammers don’t tell you the truth because they are pretty sure you don’t want to hear it.

The truth is that you will have to put in a lot of work up front to get off the ground with your internet business to make any money at all, let alone a profit. The payoff is that things get easier after you’ve done the hard part.

If you are just beginning your new lifestyle of marketing on the internet, or you bought that book about how to become an eBay millionaire, ask yourself how much time and effort you are willing to put in to make your dreams of quitting your day job come true. In reality, ‘quitting your day job’ means changing your day job to internet marketing.

Refer back to your business plan often to keep yourself on track. What, you don’t have a business plan? You should really put some effort into formulating a plan. You will find these websites helpful www.planware.org and toolkit.com.

It’s their day job, not the internet marketing lifestyle they told you about

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Maybe you’ve heard of the "internet marketing life style" where you only work 2 hours a week at home in your pj’s and you rake in tens of thousands of dollars a month. The truth is: It’s Their Day Job. And they work hard at it even if they are at home and in their pj’s. It’s their business. It’s what they do every day. It’s not so easy. So why are they telling you how easy it is? So you will buy the stuff they want to sell you - duh! Or, doh!, if you prefer.

If you have even thought about internet marketing, you have seen all kinds of garbage in the form of extremely hyped up sales pages blasting you with unbelievable claims (more…)
